Hi mam,
ReplyDeleteThis is Shakthi vendhan. Certain important tools were discussed in the class. Ommwriter, creativist, scribo phile, story meter,e-portfolio were the important tools that we have discussed in the class. Among the above mentioned writing tools, I felt omm writer as an inspiring app. It is because of its 1.Background formation and transformation 2. The easiness in changing the font 3. Free from distraction 4.It also provides certain pleasant sounds that makes while writing. 5.It also provides the opportunity to share instantly whatever we write. All these unique qualities along with the sounds that make will impress the leaners to start writing. It will also make the learner to write something in a different manner. With the help of the earphone it provides optimal writing experience. Were, learning of other skills like reading also takes place. It allows the learner to save in whichever format they want.
It works as user friendly.
So, I personally felt Ommwriter is a very good academic app that could enhance learners' writing ability
The advertisement and the video about the app also looks fabulous. It also will impress the learner. Ommwriter is one of the best apps to teach writing.
Thank you
Good Evening Mam.

Mam. I Personally believe Scibophile is the best writing tool. Scribophile is known for the detailed and helpful critiques that members exchange. The critiques create a positive atmosphere and encourage the writer to continue producing more works and also improve the quality of writing. The writer will also be writing critiques for others too. This overall builds good relationship between writers and enables the free flow of logical ideas.
Thank You Mam.
Hello mam.
ReplyDeleteThe writing tools which we have discussed in the class are as follows:
1.OmmWriter- it provides the distraction free environment where a writer can write in peace. OmmWriter has three main features:
1. beautiful backgrounds to hold the attention of the writer which sets the writing mood;
2. audio tracks for people who like to think with music
3. keystroke sounds to support every move on the keyboard.
2.Creatavist-
Creatavist is a beautiful combination of storytelling and digital innovation. It recognizes that stories can be told through a blend of text, images, audio and video. The emphasis is on multimedia. Writers will find Creatavist an ideal medium for producing and publishing great stories. We can use Creatavist to publish an ebook, a magazine issue, a news report, a case study. There is also a community of writers and storytellers you can join and learn from them.
3.Scribophile- Scribophile is an online writing group made up of writers who improve each other's work with thoughtful critiques and by sharing their writing experience. 5.e-Portfolio- An ePortfolio (electronic portfolio) is an electronic collection of evidence that shows one's learning journey over time. It includes writing samples, photos, videos, research projects which should be documented in electronic form .
From my perspective Scribophile is best in teaching writing. Here a writer has the opportunity to connect with many writers. A writer should have possibilities to correct mistakes and improves writing by the criticisms from other writers. Here a writer will join a group based on the genres and his/ her own interest.
Greetings Madam,
ReplyDeleteOMMWRITER: It is a tool which helps in digital writing. It looks like an advanced form of the old typewriter. It attracts the people who are interested to use a typewriter and in the sound of a typewriter. It provides space for a writer to write without any external disturbances like facebook messages, emails and pop ups. Moreover it is easy for a writer to put all his/her thoughts in words without any delay and disturbances. It is also said that it provides the facility of sending the typed content to or through a mail and can be saves as a pdf. It is compatible with the devices like computers, laptops and iphones.
CREATAVIST: It is an online tool which offers the users to write on anything under the sky and publish or sell it. It requires the facebook id, gmail or a google account to log in. It provides space to write something new directly or a person can copy and paste a text which he already has and he can perfect it with pictures, audios and slides available in the dashboard.
This makes writing more interesting.
Scribophile: It is an online tool which provides space to the writers to write and get critiques from others. "Writing is a solitary art, but that doesn’t mean you have to be lonely", this is the prime feature of this tool. It provides its services in two levels one for Casual writer and the other for the Dedicated writer. It is only for the adults. It requires an email id for registration. Constructive criticism which the writer get in these tool develops his writing skill. Apart from writing and Criticism it provides a good resources for writing.
STORYMETER: It is an application which helps in creative writing. It asks questions according to the topic or the information provided, suggests ideas, increase the brainstorming speed, organises the writer's notes and checks writer's blocks.
It's is suitable for all ages. It is a digital notebook and allows to outline and organise note taking.
ePortfolio: It is an electronic collection of proof that shows the learning journey for a period of time. It can be related to specific academic fields or a learner's lifelong learning.
Proof may have written samples, photos, videos, research projects, observations by mentors and peers, and/or reflective thinking. The key aspect of an eportfolio is the learner's reflection on the evidence, such as why it was chosen and what the learner learned from the process of developing your eportfolio.
I opine that The Storyometer: Enemy of Writer's Block is a good tool for a writer in the intermediate level. It removes the blocks of the writers by suggesting the ways to interpret, by questioning and making the writers to develop the concept as a response and by helping in the task of note making and outlining the notes. The form of the tool is also interesting and which makes the readers more active.
Thank you madam.

ReplyDeleteGreetings ma’am,
ReplyDeleteIn class, we discussed about certain online writing tools. They are Ommwriter, Creatavist, ScriboPhile, Story-meter and e-portfolio.
For one to write, the environment should be conducive for ideas to be born- preferably a distraction-free set up. Ommwriter provides this special ambience, with its peaceful and soothing music and the sound of the type writer in the background. The whole screen turns into a writing space, thus eliminating distractions. It is compatible with Windows as well as Mac.
Creatavist is a web-based story-telling platform developed by the media and software company The Atavist. It also lets their writers sell their writings. What one needs is only a Facebook or Google account for authentic login procedure.
Scribophile is an online writing workshop and writer’s community. Writers of all skill levels join to improve each other's work with thoughtful critiques and by sharing their writing experience. This is the right place to join if one wants to get the best feedback around, to learn how to get published, and to be a part of the friendliest and most successful writing workshop online.
Story meter is an iPad app that helps your creative writing by providing you with the tools to brainstorm, mind map and organize your notes and ideas. It also provide great writing tips to help you write better. Storymeter has this section with interesting video tutorials to help you learn about how you can use its feature in your writing.
An electronic portfolio (also known as an e-portfolio) is a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the Web. Such electronic evidence may include input text, electronic files, images, multimedia, blog entries, and hyperlinks. It is a collection of information and digital artifacts that demonstrates development or evidences learning outcomes, skills or competencies.
The tool which I found most effective and interesting is Ommwriter. The ambience and mood that it creates is one of its kinds. As a person who closely connects music to self, in my opinion, this tool would kindle all the creative spirits inside a person and make them write.

ReplyDeleteGood afternoon, Mam…I have listed below few important writing tools.
ReplyDeleteOmmWriter is a writing application for Windows, Mac, and the iPad.OmmWriter is different from other writing apps. It sees writing as a completely immersive activity, and tries to provide the writer with an environment worth getting immersed in. Not just full screen text, but also attractive background images, and soothing ambient sounds.
Creatavist, a new “web-based storytelling platform,” is actually quite interesting to find eBooks creators with plenty of benefits that still makes the creative process easier, Creatavist has loomed large as one of the best eBook creator options. It has a myriad of ways to structure digital eBooks, magazines and Photobooks. It lets you use a variety of file types to create projects out of words, images and video.
Scribophile bills itself as “The online writing group for serious writers.” Perhaps a better version of that tagline would be, “The online writing group for people who are serious about writing.”
In Scribophile, you can create and/or join any number of groups to whom you can confine your writing submissions. Most groups are defined by genre, but many focus on the writer’s nationality, politics, gender, religion, age or writing experience. Some of these groups are open to anyone, but others are private and by invitation only.
Storyometer this app serves as a brainstormer, note-taker, and outlining tool for writers. But when you go to the Storyometer website, it’s clear that this app does far more than offer you possible plot elements. It has various options for writers where the process of writing becomes easy as it has braintsroming, note-taking and other options.
A Portfolio is a collection of work developed across varied contexts over time. The portfolio can advance learning by providing students and/or faculty with a way to organize, archive and display pieces of work.
The electronic format allows faculty and other professionals to evaluate student portfolios using technology, which may include the Internet, CD-ROM, video, animation or audio. Electronic portfolios are becoming a popular alternative to traditional paper-based portfolios because they offer practitioners and peers the opportunity to review, communicate and assess portfolios in an asynchronous manner.
Now we are at the stage where many people can write and publish articles directly from their phones or tablets with larger screens for phones and great external keyboard support on tablets, there really hasn't been a better time to start writing on your own devices. These different writing applications enhance writing in a better way. It breaks the traditional ways of writing. It adds videos, pictures, music etc which makes writing even more interesting.
According to me the cream of the crop would be “creatavist”.Creatavist has a lot of options that may seem overwhelming to a first-time ebook creator. It does well with images, as well as sound, video, and interactive elements (all of which do become obsolete on older ereaders). Creatavist is also a publishing site, which means you can publish your ebook to different vendors, like Amazon etc.. Creatavist is a beautiful collision of storytelling and digital innovation.
Creatavist recognizes that powerful stories can be told through a blend of text, images, audio and video. The emphasis is on multimedia. Writers with a flair for aesthetics will find Creatavist an ideal medium for producing and publishing great stories.
You can use Creatavist to publish an ebook, a magazine issue, a news report, a case study. You can even use it to create an app. Creatavist’s basically is “Storytelling without limits,” and the catchphrase certainly sums up what you experience in the final product. Hence, I feel that creatavist is the most useful writing application.
WRITING TOOLS
ReplyDeleteOMMWRITER:
Good afternoon mam,
OmmWriter is a tool which makes it easier for you to concentrate. Based on a natural settings, it effectively stimulate one's mind from distraction and sets up a direct line between one's thoughts and one's words.
Simply telling, if we are alone, we can hear our inner voice clearer than ever and we will be able to search deeper our creative process.
Even though there are certain writing tools like CREATAVIST, SCIBOPHILE,STORYMETER, EPORTFOLIO and OMMWRITER works in beautiful background to arrest the attention of the writer and it makes a person to think along with music.
Therefore I think it is a wonderfu academic app that can increase one's ability. It provokes one's thought process to write effectively, imaginatively and creatively.
Thanks mam
Respected mam, Various tools and platforms for enhancing writing and reading skills were discussed by you the other day in our class. As follow up activity, I have submitted few of the collected materials for your review. Creativist is a web based storytelling platform developed by the media and software company The Atavist. OmmWriter is a tool which makes it easier for a reader to concentrate. Based on a natural setting, it effectively insulates one’s mind from distractions and sets up a direct line between your thoughts and your words. Scribophile is a community thrives on the principle of serious commitment to serious writing, and the foundation of that commitment is reading and responding to works. Storyometer is a dynamic tool geared toward writers of all backgrounds. Creative types in particular will benefit from the app’s storehouse of unconventional ideas and prompts. A portfolio is a compilation of academic work. Out of these tools I feel that portfolio does a comparatively better job than others. A portfolio is a compilation of academic work and other forms of educational evidence assembled for the purpose of evaluating coursework quality, learning progress, and academic achievement, for determining whether students have met learning standards or other academic requirements for courses, grade-level promotion, and graduation, for helping students reflect on their academic goals and progress as learners and for creating a lasting archive of academic work products, accomplishments, and other documentation. Advocates of student portfolios argue that compiling, reviewing, and evaluating student work over time can provide a richer, deeper, and more accurate picture of what students have learned and are able to do than more traditional measures—such as standardized tests, quizzes, or final exams—that only measure what students know at a specific point in time. Portfolios come in many forms, from notebooks filled with documents, notes, and graphics to online digital archives and student-created websites, and they may be used at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. some portfolios are used to assess learning in a specific subject area, while others evaluate the acquisition of skills that students can apply in all subject areas.
ReplyDeleteThank you mam.
ReplyDeletehere are some tools which enhance writing skill of a person those who want to become a good writer. The effective tools are creatavist, storymeter, e-portfolio,scribophile and ommwriter.
ReplyDeleteommwriter s a writing application for Windows, Mac, and the iPad. It is based on the philosophy that in order to concentrate and be creative, we need a calm and largely distraction free writing environment. Unfortunately, our electronic writing environments are typically riddled with distractions, be it complex program menus or random messages and alerts popping up. The result is a constant struggle for focus. OmmWriter creates a serene, relaxing, simplistic, and fullscreen writing environment to help you be alone with your thoughts and be inspired.
An ePortfolio (electronic portfolio) is an electronic collection of evidence that shows your learning journey over time. Portfolios can relate to specific academic fields or your lifelong learning. Evidence may include writing samples, photos, videos, research projects, observations by mentors and peers, and/or reflective thinking.
Creatavist (or Atavist) has a lot of options that may seem overwhelming to a first-time ebook creator. It does well with images, as well as sound, video, and interactive elements.
Scribophile is a respectful online writing workshop and writer's community. The site have amount of activity more than 330,000 critiques served for 55,000 works over six years. The site works on a “free-to-play” model with limited ability to submit works and send messages to other members, or you can subscribe ($65 per year or $9 per month) for unlimited submissions and messaging, about the same cost as a one-day writing course at most institutions. Either way, the site is refreshingly ad-free, and you retain complete control of all your copyrights.Works are submitted in 3,000 word chunks (suggested) and placed in a queue, headed toward the ‘spotlight,’ as it’s called. Once a work receives a certain number of critiques, usually between 3 and 6, it moves out of the spotlight, allowing other works to move up. Although members can critique any submission, getting works out of the spotlight moves your own work up, assuring it of getting critiqued if it hasn’t already been. You can always revise and resubmit a work, although every submission costs Karma.
You can evaluate writers in the queue by clicking their names and reading their profiles, which often lists their education and experience, and how often they’ve been ‘favorited’ or ‘gifted’ by other writers. In any case, if you don’t like what you’re reading, you don’t have to critique it. Also, members are judged by their critiquing and develop a ‘reputation.’ It becomes clear that reciprocation is the best strategy — critiquing good writers and critiquers may get them to critique you.The site offers 21 genres to choose from, including memoir and biography, but most are fiction-related, including science fiction, romance, fantasy, erotic, young adult, thriller, mystery and literary fiction. It’s great that you can restrict your reading to particular genres, but in the public forum, you can’t restrict who critiques your writing, so you may have people using up your allotted critiques who work in genres wildly different from your own. In Scribophile, you can create and/or join any number of groups to whom you can confine your writing submissions. Most groups are defined by genre, but many focus on the writer’s nationality, politics, gender, religion, age or writing experience.
It’s worth pointing out that Scribophile can also be a great tool for conventional, real-world writing groups or classes, allowing them not only to create private groups with access only to their members, but also to read and react to member writing offline before getting together in person. Thus the feedback of the work you published in the site was received by you which helps you to rectify your mistakes and you can become a good writer.
Good Evening Ma’m,
ReplyDeleteShort notes on certain online writing tools
